First lady’s chief of staff, White House deputy press secretary resign after Capitol Hill insurrection

  • Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's chief of staff, and Sarah Matthews, White House deputy press secretary, both resigned Wednesday after the violent insurrection on Capitol Hill.
  • Grisham submitted her resignation letter Wednesday afternoon after pro-Trump extremists stormed the U.S. Capitol Building. Matthews also resigned Wednesday.
  • The insurrection came after Trump rallied supporters in Washington to protest the congressional count of the Electoral College ballots that will confirm Democrat Joe Biden's win.
