Malaysia’s latest Covid lockdown won’t hit the economy as much as last year, finance minister says

  • Current lockdown measures in Malaysia to contain Covid-19 cost the economy an estimated 700 million ringgit ($172.7 million) a day in lost GDP, said Finance Minister Zafrul Aziz.
  • That's lower than the estimated 2.4 billion ringgit ($592.3 million) a day during when the entire country was locked down last year, he said.
  • The Malaysian government is maintaining its growth forecast of between 6.5% and 7.5% this year, said the minister.
